EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2003

International Rectifier, IR(R) (NYSE:IRF), introduces two new families of Advanced Analog 120W output DC-to-DC converters that are DSCC SMD qualified, offering enhanced reliability. The newly SMD qualified products are operable from nominal inputs of 50V (AFL50 series) and 120V (AFL120 series). The AFL12005S converter provides as much as 80% efficiency at nearly 25% more power at 5V output than the closest competing device. The AFL12003R3S is a 3.3V output converter with up to 72% efficiency.

The product families are designed for rugged operating environments and wide temperature extremes encountered in commercial and military avionics, weapon control and targeting systems. The products are also well suited for new design platforms where small size and lightweight are critical.

Standard microcircuit drawing (SMD)-qualified products are recognized for their reliability and trace-ability. As a result, DSCC SMD qualified products are preferred over standard products that are not SMD qualified.

"In addition, SMD qualified devices expedite the design-in process for many government programs, since a non-standard part approval request is not required," said Tiva Bussarakons, Director, Technical Marketing at International Rectifier's Advanced Analog group.

The AFL50 Series is designed to operate with an input voltage range of 30V to 80V, and the AFL120 Series is designed for 80V to 160V input.

The products are equipped with today's market demand for functionality and ease of system integration, on/off command with primary or secondary referenced, soft start turn-on, synchronization, under-voltage lockout and parallel operation for increased power requirements. The key features are parallel operation with equal current stress sharing and high power density of up to 80W per cubic inch. The standard single output converter voltage range is 3.3V to 28V, while the standard dual output voltages are +/-5V, +/-12V and +/-15V.
