STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2000

Ericsson has been selected as the 3G supplier by WIND Italy

for WCDMA core network and radio access

Ericsson (Nasdaq:ERICY) will as supplier deliver and implement a 3G system based on WCDMA if WIND wins a license, to be awarded through an auction starting in October.

WIND chose Ericsson because of their leading position in 3G and their ability to secure WIND a commercial 3G launch by early 2002.

Based on WCDMA technology, Ericsson's 3G system to be supplied can also be referred to as UMTS, a European denomination for 3G. UMTS stands for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System.

Ericsson is ideally positioned to support any operator anywhere to migrate to 3G -- regardless of technology heritage or technology choice. Ericsson offers 3G systems based on WCDMA, cdma2000, and EDGE -- being the only supplier with a complete portfolio for second and third generation systems.
