FED:Govt could revive Malaysian deal: expert=4

Former Labor powerbroker Graham Richardson says the government has taken a thumping
in the High Court and now has no alternative but to swallow its pride and opt for a Nauru
solution for asylum seekers.

Mr Richardson said the decision made the government look like a joke "because frankly
at the moment it is."

He said everyone would have told the government there would be a legal challenge and
whoever provided the legal advice that it was safe should be sacked.

"This is a thumping in the High Court," Mr Richardson told Sky News.

"They didn't just go down. They got slaughtered."

The former Hawke and Keating government minister said there was simply no way Malaysia
could adopt the measures necessary to satisfy the Australian legal requirements.

"Malaysia is just dead. In any event we'd look so silly trying to keep chasing the
Malaysian solution.

"There's nothing else for the government to do but to look elsewhere, and where else
can you look bar Nauru?"

Mr Richardson said if the government did opt for Nauru it should "announce it quickly
in the next couple of days".

"Don't muck around and get dragged kicking and screaming there - just do it."

The federal opposition has long called on Labor to reopen the mothballed processing
centre on Nauru which was a key plank in the former Howard government's so-called Pacific
Solution.

ClickBank Updates on Growth in Independent eBooks
Type: News

ClickBank, an online marketplace for digital information products, announced it is experiencing growth in eBooks sales, due in part to new product launches in the eBook space.

According to a release, long time ClickBank clients and Internet marketers Rasheed Ali and Huey Lee have recently launched a new information product, "Autopilot Income Machines." This multi-media product contains a mixture of video and PDF training materials in eBook format, supported by software.
"We've been online for almost 10 years now and have been with ClickBank since 2003. We've built multi-million dollar businesses on the sale of eBooks and still cannot find a worthy replacement, even video, that can achieve what a simple, well written eBook can achieve for its reader," said Ali. "Our latest product is an eBook 'blueprint,' supported by video training that will give the reader a richer, multi-modality, learning experience to help enhance their retention and functional use of the information."

"There has been a lot of buzz recently around the increase in consumer desire for eBooks and this creates strong opportunity for independent authors seeking to establish a following," said Brad Wiskirchen, CEO, ClickBank. "Historically, we have provided an established channel for innovative, independent vendors to bring their products to market. This is no different. We are leveraging our network to provide a unique opportunity for authors, sellers and publishers to reach a new market of readers."

ClickBank offers titles from independent authors in a range of categories that include Education, Fiction, Green Products, Self- Help and many more, with titles that range from Do-It-Yourself Solar Energy to Official Secret Restaurant Recipes, the Company said. Companies such as Relationship Headquarters, a relationship counseling resource founded by Licensed Professional Counselor Bob Grant, have seen first-hand the success that's possible when selling eBooks through ClickBank. Relationship Headquarters' success over the last 7 years includes over $3 million in sales and over 80,000 products sold to date through ClickBank.

"As with anything you do, success depends largely on partnering with the right companies," said Jill Menghini, Manager of RelationshipHeadquarters.com. "ClickBank provides all of the resources that you need in one place. We have received rave reviews on their customer service and that has translated into return customers and increased success for us."

SA:SA to set carbon emissions limit

AAP General News (Australia)

SA:SA to set carbon emissions limit

ADELAIDE, Dec 6 AAP - South Australia will set a carbon emissions limit for new electricity
production that will prevent the future construction of new coal-fired power plants in
the state.

The limit will be introduced as a transitional measure pending the introduction of
a national carbon policy, Premier Mike Rann said in a statement on Monday.

Consultations with industry and interest groups will begin early next year to set a
maximum carbon content for electricity generated from any new plant in SA.

"The starting point for that consultation will be a limit of 0.7 tonnes of CO2 for
each megawatt hour of electricity sent out from new generating plant," the premier said.

SA's energy circumstances are different from other states with only 34 per cent of
electricity generated by coal-fired power, less than half the national average, he said.

Gas accounts for almost half of the state's electricity generation, while 18 per cent
comes from wind power generation.

"By 2020, 33 per cent of our power will come from renewable energy," Mr Rann said.

The government recognised that its approach may have implications for specific projects
such as off-grid diesel projects as well as syngas and coal-to-liquids projects where
power generation can form part of a larger process, he said.

These cases will be considered in detail in the consultation process.

"The government intends to provide sufficient flexibility in its legislation to be
able to recognise and respond to unintended outcomes," he said.

"This will also take into account innovative approaches for managing carbon emissions
that are being planned by project developers."

Fed: Evans moves to cancel visa of man jailed over police murder

Immigration Minister CHRIS EVANS is moving to cancel the visa of a Tongan man who's
serving a prison sentence for his part in the killing of a NSW policeman.

MOTEKIAI TAUFAHEMA was sentenced to 11 years jail for the manslaughter of Senior Constable
GLENN MCENALLAY in 2002.

The earliest he can be released from prison is March 2012.

The Sydney highway patrolman died after chasing a stolen car driven by TAUFAHEMA and
carrying three other men.

TAUFAHEMA faced deportation to Tonga on his release but successfully appealed to the
Administrative Appeals Tribunal .. which overturned the decision on grounds that his daughter
.. who's seven years old .. was born in Australia.

The federal court upheld the tribunal's decision .. rejecting an immigration department
move to cancel TAUFAHEMA'S visa.

Senator EVANS says the law allows ministerial discretion to set aside the tribunal decision.

The minister could then cancel the visa on grounds there's reasonable suspicion the
person failed the character test and that cancelling the visa's in the national interest.

a vehicle at about 1.35am (WDT) on Thursday.

SYDNEY, Aug 24 AAP - Stem cell harvesting will not be a divisive issue for the Labor
Party, federal Opposition Leader Kim Beazley says.

Mr Beazley today welcomed new research showing stem cells may be able to be created
without destroying human embryos, saying it is likely to help shift the moral ground on
the ongoing debate.

"That is potentially a very good piece of news," Mr Beazley told ABC Radio.

"If properly understood ... if that is actually something that is an accurate conveyer
of that information then it will make a difference to the moral debate."

Mr Beazley said while members of the Labor Party had different views, he didn't expect
any major division on the issue.

"It's not terribly divisive for us. Because of the particular character of this debate
we will inevitably, I believe, when the bill comes before the house, see the national
executive issuing a proposition that should be a free vote," he said.

"On our side, yes there will be differing opinions and there'll be a very strong moral
debate, but it wasn't last time divisive in my party and I don't expect it to be divisive
this time."

International Rectifier Introduces Standard Microcircuit Drawing-Certified DC-DC Converters with Up to 80% Efficiency.

Technology Editors

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2003

International Rectifier, IR(R) (NYSE:IRF), introduces two new families of Advanced Analog 120W output DC-to-DC converters that are DSCC SMD qualified, offering enhanced reliability. The newly SMD qualified products are operable from nominal inputs of 50V (AFL50 series) and 120V (AFL120 series). The AFL12005S converter provides as much as 80% efficiency at nearly 25% more power at 5V output than the closest competing device. The AFL12003R3S is a 3.3V output converter with up to 72% efficiency.

The product families are designed for rugged operating environments and wide temperature extremes encountered in commercial and military avionics, weapon control and targeting systems. The products are also well suited for new design platforms where small size and lightweight are critical.

Standard microcircuit drawing (SMD)-qualified products are recognized for their reliability and trace-ability. As a result, DSCC SMD qualified products are preferred over standard products that are not SMD qualified.

"In addition, SMD qualified devices expedite the design-in process for many government programs, since a non-standard part approval request is not required," said Tiva Bussarakons, Director, Technical Marketing at International Rectifier's Advanced Analog group.

The AFL50 Series is designed to operate with an input voltage range of 30V to 80V, and the AFL120 Series is designed for 80V to 160V input.

The products are equipped with today's market demand for functionality and ease of system integration, on/off command with primary or secondary referenced, soft start turn-on, synchronization, under-voltage lockout and parallel operation for increased power requirements. The key features are parallel operation with equal current stress sharing and high power density of up to 80W per cubic inch. The standard single output converter voltage range is 3.3V to 28V, while the standard dual output voltages are +/-5V, +/-12V and +/-15V.

New Study Shows That Liability is the Primary Concern of IT Decision-Makers In Managing Employee Internet Usage.

SEATTLE, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire/ --

Market Resources, a market research firm, today released the findings from a study entitled "Managing the Workplace" that concluded that liability issues resulting from Internet use in the workplace are the primary concern of information technology (IT) decision-makers. The study, which consisted of feedback from IT professionals at 367 organizations nationwide, found that 69 percent of those polled listed the fear of liability as their biggest concern, and 60 percent felt that liability concerns required a solution within a year.

The issue of legal liability has surfaced in the last couple of years because of the increasing use of the Internet in the workplace. According to The Center for Internet Studies, more than 60 percent of companies have disciplined employees and more than 30 percent have terminated employees for inappropriate use of the Internet. The "Managing the Workplace" survey, sponsored by Internet access management company N2H2, also showed that the use of filtering software has become one of the primary solutions being adopted by organizations hoping to curb inappropriate Internet use. Filtering software helps protect organizations by tailoring Internet content according to specific employee groups, thus dramatically reducing the potential for Web sites deemed pornographic.

"This study clearly shows that many organizations are becoming aware of the legal risks associated with Internet use in the workplace," said Nina Rook of Market Resources, who conducted the survey. "For this reason, employers are recognizing the huge potential risks of Internet misuse and are actively pursuing immediate remedies such as filtering software."

Other key findings from the survey include:

-- The categories of material that were given highest priority for

blocking were liability related categories, specifically 87 percent of

the managers surveyed rated the pornography category as a high

priority.

-- 46 percent of the companies were blocking access to specific URLs using

a filtering tool.

Some Dubai success.

Super Serb Ana Ivanovic is out to make it third time lucky in Dubai after she announced she will be back in the emirate for a tilt at the Dubai Tennis Championships. The reigning French Open champion will not have it easy at the Aviation Club next month though with a stellar field, which includes all ten of the world's top ten. The world No.5 will join Jelena Jankovic, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Dinara Safina, Venus Williams and defending champion Elena Dementieva in the region's most prestigious tournament which, under the ATP and WTA restructure, is the only ATP 500 and only WTA Premier 5 sanctioned Championships in the Middle East. And with this new, enhanced status there is now a total prize money pot of $4 million on offer. Tournament managing director Colm McLoughlin is looking forward to welcoming the Serb back. "We are thrilled to see her return to Dubai and it will be interesting to see how well she does in a field that is second to none," he said. "Ana Ivanovic is not only a world-class champion, but someone who is universally liked by the players and fans alike." Meanwhile, Ivanovic got her Australian Open campaign off to a god start with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Germany's Julia Goerges. Elsewhere, world No.1 Jankovic brushed aside Yvonne Meusburger 6-1, 6-3 in impressive fashion as she looks for a maiden Grand Slam title to silence the critics who question her ranking. She said: "It's exciting to begin this tournament and to start with a win is always nice," she said. Venus and Serena Williams get their Australian Open campaigns off today.
